Pro-Tips: Exam Preparation Strategy
- Week −3 to −2: Build a daily timetable from the official schedule. Finish core chapters, create formula/theory sheets, and note weak areas.
- Week −2 to −1: Solve one timed paper every alternate day; review mistakes the same day. Convert errors into flash-cards.
- Week −1: Focus on high-weightage topics, diagrams, maps, and definitions. Do short, targeted practice instead of new chapters.
- Last 48 hours: Only light revision with your notes; no new concepts. Pack your exam kit and confirm centre route/time.
- Scan first: When permitted by the invigilator, quickly scan all questions and mark easy ones.
- 70–20–10 rule: Spend ~70% time on sure-score questions, 20% on moderate ones, keep 10% buffer for review.
- Show working: Write steps, units, and label diagrams—marks are often stepwise.
- Leave space: If stuck, leave a line and move on; return in the buffer time.
- Structure: Use headings, bullet points, and neat margins.
- Keywords: Underline key terms, theorems, dates, and laws.
- Neatness: One diagram = many words; label clearly and to scale where needed.
- Check totals: Recount attempted marks to meet section requirements.
- 50-10 focus cycle: 50 minutes study + 10 minutes break. Rotate subjects to avoid fatigue.
- Active recall: Close the book and write from memory; then check and correct.
- Spaced review: Revisit tough topics after 1 day, 3 days, and 7 days.
- Past papers: Practice with the exact exam duration printed on your schedule.
- Hall ticket/admit card and a valid ID (as instructed).
- Black/blue pens, pencils, eraser, sharpener, ruler; geometry box for Maths/Science.
- Transparent pouch; simple analog watch if permitted; water bottle as per rules.
- Reach the centre 45–60 minutes early.
- Sleep 7–8 hours; avoid late-night cramming before exams.
- Eat light, balanced meals; stay hydrated.
- Keep your phone off/silent and out of the exam kit.
- Deep breathing: 4-in, 4-hold, 4-out — repeat to calm nerves.
- Starting with the toughest question and losing early minutes.
- Forgetting units, scales, or labels in diagrams/graphs.
- Overwriting or cutting answers messily—use neat corrections.
- Leaving questions blank without attempting known parts.
Final Note: Follow centre-level instructions announced by the invigilator. Manage time, keep answers readable, and use the buffer minutes to verify steps, units, and question numbers.
